I am a lion….did you hear my roar?

If there is anything I have learned from working with young children it is their incredible capacity for pretend play and role playing. I recently worked with a group of children, ages 3 – 6, using creative dramatics as a way to practice creative thinking and what an enjoyable experience was had by all. Here is what you will need to recreate part of this class. Ask your child how a lion moves? What sound does a lion make? Look at pictures of lions and talk about them, what kind of food they eat and how might the lion sleep – would it snore?

You will need a recording of “Carnival of the Animals, No.1 Introduction and Royal March of the Lion” by Camille Saint-Saens. Here is a link to a YouTube recording of this piece. While listening to the music, prowl around pretending to be a lion. Be sure to add your best lion roar.

I provided a few dress-up items for my students:
